Adelanto a charter city in California

Adelanto was founded in 1915 by E. H. Richardson, the inventor of what became later the Hotpoint Electric Iron. He marketed his patent and purchased acreage for $75,000. He had aspired to build up one ofthe 1st planned communities in Southern California.
Richardson never entirely realised his dream, however his planning laid the basis for what is currently the City of Adelanto.
The orchards thrived before the Great Depression, and when they had been replaced by poultry farms.
Huge acreages of deciduous fruit trees long ago flourished in the town, which become acknowledged in California for its fresh fruits and also cider.  As the wartime emergency grew at the start of 1941, the Victorville Army aerodrome, airdrome was established with territory within the Adelanto area of influence. In September 1950, the airport was named George Air Force Base in honor of the late Brigadier General Harold H. George.
Adelanto continued being known as a “community services district” until in 1970, the town was included, and Adelanto became San Bernardino County’s smallest city. The city became a charter city in The fall of 1992.
